  ·Early Paleozoic Sedimentary basins of China and its vicinity, mainly South China, Southwest China, North China, Norwest China, Burma (Myanmar), Thailand and Mongolia, and their correlative study with those from North America and England, involving various aspects  

  ·Paleontology (Ordovician and Silurian brachiopod taxonomy, functional morphology, evolution) 

  ·Paleoecology (using statistical analysis to study community structures, organism-sediment relationships, biodiversity, mass extinctions and recovery) 

  ·Stratigraphy (lithostratigraphy, biostragraphy and chronostratigraphy) 

  ·Basin analysis (sea level changes, marine transgressions and regressions in carbonate basins, platforms and ramps)
