  朱茂炎博士,男,196312月生,安徽省望江县人。中国科学院南京地质古生物研究所研究员,国家重点基础研究发展计划(“973”)项目首席科学家。德国哥廷根科学院外籍通讯院士,中国科学院百人计划入选者,国家杰出青年基金获得者,国家百千万人才工程有突出贡献中青年专家,江苏省“333高层次人才培养工程中青年科技领军人才。 

  兼任国际地层委员会埃迪卡拉纪地层分会选举委员、寒武纪地层分会选举委员和寒武系纽芬兰统幸运阶国际工作组主席,《古生物学报》编委会副主任,《Palaeogeography, Palaeoclimatology, Palaeoecology》、《Palaeontologia ElectronicaJournal of Earth Sciences》、《Palaeoworld》、Journal of Palaeogeography》、《科技导报》、《世界地质》、《生物进化》杂志编委。

  主要从事新元古代-寒武纪地球环境和生命演化的研究工作。

  发表和合作发表包括Science/Nature/PNAS等论文170余篇、专著3部,主编论文集12部(含SCI杂志专集5部)。多项研究成果入选国内外教科书,受到国内外主流媒体的关注,为保持我国在动物起源和寒武纪大爆发研究领域中的国际地位做出了实质性贡献。曾获中国科学院自然科学特等奖,香港求是科技基金会杰出科技成就集体奖,贵州省科技进步二等奖,中国古生物学会尹赞勋地层古生物学奖 

  领导课题组在大量野外地质工作的基础上:

      1. 在华南迪迪卡拉系陡山沱组首次发现全球最早的、距今6亿年前的动物休眠卵化石和保存细胞结构的海绵成体化石,采用同步辐射相衬成像CT技术论证了两侧对称动物和动物胚胎多样性在瓮安生物群中的存在,首次发现以碳质膜保存的典型“埃迪卡拉化石”,这些发现为揭示动物在“寒武纪大爆发”之前的演化过程提供了新线索,一项成果入选2007年“中国基础研究十大新闻”;

  2. 在距今5.2亿年前的澄江生物群中发现节肢动物具有高度发达的复眼,认为发达的视神经和眼睛的出现是推动动物“寒武纪大爆发”的驱动力之一。首次发现寒武纪食肉动物存在的直接化石证据。这些发现和研究为揭示动物的寒武纪大爆发本质提供了重要科学依据。

  3. 采用包括层序、生物和化学地层等综合地层学方法和高精度锆石U-Pb同位素年代学方法,初步建立了华南距今6亿年前后高精度年代地层框架,并提出地质年代划分新方案;厘定了新元古代冰期结束时间(635Ma);

  4. 论证了发现于华南埃迪卡拉纪陡山沱组顶部记录的之一次碳同位素负异常事件是距今5.5亿年前地球历史上最大的、全球同时发生的地球环境事件,以及这一事件对生命演化的影响;

  5. 首次对华南距今6亿年前后生命和环境的演化过程进行了综合分析,提出多次大辐射和大灭绝的阶段性演化过程新模型,认为动物在寒武纪大爆发之前经历了一个隐形微体的辐射演化阶段;

  6. 采用多种元素和同位素地球化学方法,揭示了距今6亿年前后海洋氧化逐步增加的具体过程,并在5.2亿年前达到现代海洋的氧化水平,表明该时期生物快速演化过程与海洋的氧化过程密切相关;

  7. 认为底栖动物出现后对沉积物的扰动作用改变了主要营养元素的生物地球化学循环过程,维持了5.2亿年以来地球~生命系统的稳定,该新模型为人类正确认识地球~生命系统演变提供了新思路。
