  中国科学院南京地质古生物研究所研究员,中国古生物学会荣誉理事、监事,Palaeoworld共同主编,九三学社江苏省委会委员。曾任研究所所长;中国古生物学会秘书长、理事长,微体古生物学分会秘书长、理事长;第二届国际古生物学大会(2006)执委会主席;第七届、第八届全国青联委员;第六届、第七届中国科协委员;第十一届、第十二届全国人大代表。

  研究领域主要涉及:分子古生物学,中生代和古生代放射虫的分类学、生物地层学及古生态学。

  1981年毕业于北京大学地质地理系。1988年获得美国得克萨斯大学(UT-Dallas)理学博士学位。1989年在南京古生物所先后任博士后、助理研究员、副研究员,1993年任研究员。1995-1996 年赴美国约翰霍普金斯大学进修分子生物学。1996年和1999年分别两次作为日本学术振兴会邀请/交流学者赴日本名古屋大学和新泻大学进行合作与交流。1996年创建分子古生物实验室。1998年获得国家自然科学基金委“杰出青年基金”资助。先后获得中科院自然科学奖、中国青年科技奖、全国优秀回国人员称号、南京市有突出成绩的中青年专家称号、香港求是科技基金会杰出青年学者奖、全国优秀科技工作者等荣誉和奖励。
